The Ottawa Shooting Stars are proud to offer introductory level programming for players aged 6-10 in the Ottawa community. These programs are broken into either "Small Ball" or "Novice" programming based on the birth year of the player.
- Small Ball (born 2018 or 2019)
- Novice Boys (born 2016 or 2017)
- Novice Girls (born 2016 or 2017)
Small Ball programs are co-ed groups, with the exception of Monday night Girls Only sessions. Players will learn the fundamentals of dribbling, passing, and shooting, on lowered 8 foot rims. These 1 hour sessions run once per week from October to December. Players will then have the ability to register for our Winter sessions which will run from January to March afterwards.
Novice programs build upon the skills learned in Small Ball, but still serve as an entry point for new players to the game. No previous experience is required to join. Players will have one practice session per week, and one game/scrimmage on the weekend to put their skills to use on 9 foot rims. This program runs from October through March, and will include 3 "Fun Day" tournaments against other clubs around the city.
Both groups will receive their own OSS reversible jersey which they will be able to keep at the end of the season. Players at this age are encouraged to purchase their own 27.5" basketball to bring to practices each week, so that they can continue to develop their skills at home as well.
