Program Descriptions

Competitive

Our competitive program competes in the EOBA (Eastern Ontario Basketball Association) against other top teams from the area. A typical competitive season will see teams take part in 2+ practices per week, plus league games and tournaments. We will be offering competitive teams at the following age groups this year:

Boys:
U11
U12
U13
U14
U15
U16
U17
U19

Girls:
U11
U12
U13
U14
U15
U16
U17
U19

This year we hope to offer a AAA and AA team at select age groups pending numbers.

Tryout fees for the 2024-25 season are $25 and must be paid in advance once the registration has opened up. Please consult the "Age Classifications" tab if you are unsure what level your child should sign up for.

Tryout dates for each age group will be announced closer to September once we receive the last of our permits back from the school boards.

House League

Our house league program competes against other local clubs, with one practice and one game per week.

Gym times and locations are often the same each week, allowing parents to plan other activities around their child's basketball schedule.

The House League program also offers less travel than the competitive model, with most games/practices being centrally located in Ottawa.

Please note that at the House League level, players compete in 2 year cohorts. For the 2024-25 season they are as follows:

  • U12 (born 2013 or 2014)
  • U14 (born 2011 or 2012)
  • U16 (born 2009 or 20010)
  • U19 (born 2006, 2007 or 2008)

Sort outs will take place in September with the season running through until late March/early April.

Sort outs aim to balance the skill level on teams. Players are permitted to submit up to 2 "friend requests" ahead of the season.

Because we run multiple teams at each age level, parents may also submit up to one evening they do not wish to practice on. This allows us to sort players onto balanced teams, while pairing them up with friends, on a schedule that works for them.

Friend/evening requests will be collected closer to September.

U10 Programs

OSS also offers developmental programs for the youngest basketball fans in your family.

These programs focus on skill development, small sided games, and having fun.

Players will learn to pass, shoot, and dribble from our experienced coaching staff, while taking part in 3v3 games, and "Fun Day" festivals against other local teams.

2024-25 Divisions

  • Small Ball (born 2017 or 2018)
  • Novice Boys (born 2015 or 2016)
  • Novice Girls (born 2015 or 2016)

Please note, that at the Small Ball level, all programs are co-ed unless otherwise noted.

Small Ball operates once per week, and is broken up into Fall (Oct-Dec), Winter (Jan-Mar) and Spring (Apr-May) sessions.

Novice Boys will have 1 weeknight and 1 weekend session per week.

Novice Girls will have 1 weeknight and 1 weekend session per week.

Novice runs continuously from September through to April.

3v3 Leagues

OSS will be launching a FIBA 3x3 style pilot project which will run from late September/early October through to the Holiday break. Because we are testing the viability of this program this fall, we are only offering it at U12 & U14 age groups (boys and girls). If it is successful we will look at expanding it to U16 and U19 ages beginning in January 2025.

This program will be a 1hr commitment each week. 30 mins of the time will be spent running a half court practice to work on 3x3 concepts, and the second 30 minute slot will be a game vs. another team. This will culminate in a year end tournament with medals for the top 3 teams. We are capping registration of this program at 48 players at each age group, to form 8 teams of 6 players each. This is being done to maximize playing/development time of the players involved.

A "mini combine" will be run before the season commences to attempt to balance teams. 1 friend request per player will be allowed (friend requests will be collected closer to the fall). The program will be open to both competitive and house league players.

Because many of the players will also take part in HL or competitive programming as well, we will attempt to schedule the 3x3 program night in a timeslot that is the least disruptive to any other age group related practices/games. In the event that you register for this program, but are placed on a team that has a conflict that night, we will offer a 100% no questions asked refund policy to allow you to sign up for this program to supplement your regular HL or competitive participation. I.e. if you sign up and learn that there will be a conflict which precludes you from participating, you will receive your money back and your spot will be given to someone on the waiting list (no risk to signing up).

Rising Stars High Performance Program

Launching in 2024-25, the Rising Stars high performance program will provide elite level athletes with the opportunity to play against top level competition, in pursuit of their athletic dreams, while remaining part of the larger OSS organization to ensure proper coaching, LTAD, and safe sport practices are maintained.

This program will run in addition to our regular U10, House League, and competitive models which continue to be a focus for our organization moving forward. Athletes can expect 3-5 team activities per week including practices, strength & conditioning, skill development, games and more. Additional travel to out of town events and tournaments will be required above and beyond what our regular competitive streams offer.
