Q: What do I need to complete before I can coach?
- A Vulnerable Sector Check/Police Reference Check (VSC-PRC), valid within the last 2 years, for every adult in contact with players
- NCCP coach training appropriate to your age group (Learn to Train for U10–U12, Train to Train for U13+, Train to Compete optional for U16+) – required for competitive head coaches, strongly recommended for assistants
- Safe Sport Training, Rule of Two, Creating a Positive Sport Environment, and Making Headway in Sport (all free online modules online through the NCCP Locker at coach.ca)
Q: Do house league coaches need NCCP certification?
A: No – house league coaches and assistants are not required to complete NCCP level courses, though the training is open to anyone who wants it. A VSC-PRC and Safe Sport Training are still required.
Q: How do I get my Vulnerable Sector Check?
A: Email gm@ottawashootingstars.com with your full legal name to request a volunteer agency letter, then complete the check online at olbc.ottawapolice.ca (or through your local police service if outside Ottawa). Forward the completed document back to gm@ottawashootingstars.com.
