Please note that the OSS Competitive Tryouts are different than the Rising Stars High Performance Program. To learn about the differences between the Rising Stars program and OSS’s traditional competitive model, please click here.
The Ottawa Shooting Stars & Rising Stars 2025-26 competitive tryout schedules have been confirmed. Please consult the table below, and find the appropriate age group which you registered to tryout for in order to determine the time, and location of your tryouts. Please note, that unless otherwise indicated, ALL tryouts will be at Ottawa U. inside the Montpetit Hall gymnasium complex.
This facility is located at 125 University Prv. and is most easily accessed from King Edward Ave. Paid parking is available on site. A campus map can be found at the following link to help you locate the gymnasium if you are unfamiliar with the campus. Campus Map Link
Email reminders will be sent out in advance of tryouts. Players are asked to please bring a water bottle and ball with their name clearly marked on them, a clean pair of running/basketball shoes, and come dressed for physical activity. Players trying out for either a Rising Stars or OSS competitive team will receive an OSS tryout t-shirt, with numbers on the sleeves as part of their tryout fees. These shirts can be kept by the players afterwards.
There are 3 tryout registration options this year:
1)Rising Stars tryouts only (please note if you are unsuccessful at making a Rising Stars team, and wish to then tryout for an OSS competitive team, you WILL need to sign up again). $45 (includes a t-shirt)
2)OSS Competitive tryouts only. $45 (includes a t-shirt)
3)Rising Stars & OSS Competitive tryouts combined. Any players who are selected for the Rising Stars team will receive a $30 refund for their OSS competitive tryouts. Players who are not selected, will be automatically added to the OSS competitive team tryout pool, and save $15 off their registration. $75 (includes a t-shirt, $30 refund if chosen)
To register for 2025-26 tryouts, please visit our Registration Portal.
Please note, that parents/guardians are asked to please refrain from entering the gymnasium during the tryout process. Those who wish to observe the tryouts can do so from the 2nd story viewing area located above the gymnasium floor. Space is extremely limited during the tryout process, so we ask that families please respect these rules to allow coaches to run an efficient player evaluation.
All players should make their best effort to be at BOTH tryout dates. In the event that you can only make 1 of the dates listed, please email info@ottawashootingstars.com in advance so we can inform coaches ahead of time. At larger age groups, a 3rd tryout may be listed. Please note, that coaches will contact parents/guardians to inform them if players have been invited back to the final tryout as we look to reduce numbers for the final night.
We kindly ask that parents/guardians review the notes section, as some of the larger age groups have been divided into sections based on the players LAST NAME. Be sure to double check that you are attending the correct time slot in advance.
If you have not already done so, please ensure that you have ALSO registered for the correct house league program in addition to competitive tryouts. This ensures that if a player is unsuccessful at making an OSS competitive team, that we will have room for them on one of our House League teams. If the player registers for House League and is selected to play for a competitive team, a full 100% refund of your house league fees will be issued. We CANNOT guarantee that if you do not register for house league in advance, and are unsuccessful at making a competitive team that there will still be a spot available for you after tryouts.
Finally, please see below for a list of helpful tips for those who may be going through the tryout process for the first time:
1)Arrive early. Aim to be at the gymnasium roughly 10-15 minutes ahead of your tryout slot to allow players to check in, change, and stretch before entering the gymnasium.
2)When it’s time for your tryout, be sure to introduce yourself to the coaches before drills begin.
3)Keep your items (backpack, water bottle etc.) put away in a tidy fashion, off to the side where they won’t be stepped on or tripped over.
4)Coaches love energy and effort. You may not be the tallest or the fastest player in the gym, but coaches take note of kids who are hustling through every drill.
5)Say goodbye and thank the coaches on your way out of the gym. Make your final impression with them a good one.
