Post-Season Evaluations by Coach Dave
Hi Coaches and Players,
Congratulations on your seasons and hopefully some strong growth as individuals and teams as your trained throughout the season. With the off-season upon us, here are some thoughts about how you can make it more productive:
- Coaches/Athletes should be doing a post-season evaluation of their athletes to give them an idea of areas of growth and the improvements they have shown. Here’s a sample of an evaluation you could modify and/or use with your athletes.
- The off-season is a time to reflect and continue to improve what we do as coaches and athletes so that we can improve what we are doing next year. The process of improving is as important as all the practices you go to. You need to find the time as coaches to identify areas of growth for you and begin to work on them. As athletes you need to focus on the identified areas of weakness in your game and work towards improving them. Pick 1 or 2 areas to improve and get to the outdoor courts and work at them 3-4 times/week. Workouts should be 45 minutes to 1 hour and at a high intensity. Would be great to play 1-on-1 or 2-on-2 as well with some buddies. Here are a few basic workouts you can do yourself. Along with this get out and play other sports/activities. This will allow you to both rest the muscles/joints that are primarily used in basketball, cleanse your mind, and then real benefit – learn different movement patterns and fundamental movements from the other sports. These will make you a better athlete. Playing on teams all the time will not allow you to do the above.
- Lastly, thanks to all the athletes, board members, volunteers, and coaches for all you have doneand continue to do to make the Shooting Stars the strong club it is.
Have a great summer and come back better in September!
