FAQ's
1. Do I have to buy a uniform? No, the club supplies a uniform, however if the uniform is not returned at the end of the season the player will be responsible to replace the uniform (cost approximately $75.00). Players can purchase a warm-up suit (consisting of a Shooting Stars top with their name on it as well as a pair of tearaway pants). This costs approximately $82.00 and can be used until the player grows out of it. 2. How long is the season? Tryouts usually are held in late September /early October. Teams are formed by late October with practices being one or two times a week. The season ends after the Provincial Playoffs or tournaments which take place in late March or April, depending on the level. 3. Is regular attendance required at practices and games? Yes. In order to improve and bond as a team, players need to attend regularly. In the case of illness, a player is excused however the coach should be informed prior to the practice or game. In the case of injury, the player is usually required to attend to keep up with new plays, etc. Depending on the level of the player, those who have been absent from practices before games may be asked not to play in the next game. 4. What are the parental responsibilities? Parents may be asked to sit on one of the committees established to maintain the organization of the club. These committees deal with publicity, gym space and the annual banquet. Parents are requested to see that their child attends on a regular basis all practices and games. A few times a season, parents are requested to volunteer their time in running a canteen at games or tournaments. They are also asked to make a contribution to the canteen in the way of baked goods, drinks, hot dogs, etc. The money raised from the canteen goes directly back into the team account to help defray costs associated with running the team. Parents may also be asked to score or time games their child is playing in. Parents are also called on to assist in driving to 'away' games. The club is always looking for volunteers to help with other duties and functions of the club. Please contact your team manager or the club president. Parents involved in the Shooting Stars have always enjoyed the social aspects that come with having a child as a team member. This is especially true when ¡§away¡¨ games are attended as some families use this as mini-vacation time. 5. What is the difference between competitive and house leagues? Competitive league teams work on skills and compete in games for placement within the region as well as the province. House league teams work on skill improvement and compete in games on a friendly basis. 6. How important is winning? The general position of the club has always been one of friendly competition whether in the house or competitive leagues. However each team/level within the Club establishes its position independently. 7. What does the registration fee cover? The registration fee covers the cost of Tournaments Referees Rentals of gyms Equipment Uniforms Club insurance 8. Are any of the clubs members paid? No, all members of the club volunteer their time whether as a member of the board, team, or parent. 9. How many trips are made out of town? What are the costs associated with these? Each team participates in approximately 3 away tournaments. The costs associated with these are transportation (gas), hotel, and food. These vary with the location of the tournament. 10. How many games does a team have to play to participate in the provincials? To qualify for the provincials you must play 2 teams from outside your region and 1 sanctioned tour. 11.
