Club Philosophy

We are a competitive and recreational basketball club. We take pride in the fact that we offer both elements to our club, and can grow, develop and help mature our players, right from Novice, all the way up to Junior level.

We strive to be the best club in Ontario - from a competitive standpoint to a participation standpoint.  This takes many hours of volunteer dedication, coordination and involvement.  Please give us a call and help continue to make this the best club in the Capital.

Recruiting

The only thing we recruit, is great coaching talent.

We do not believe in recruiting players and we have all of the moral and ethical values in place to be a fair and open club, designed to help our young athletes grow and develop both as players and as people.  Our coaches have coached 9 teams within the Elite Development Program for Basketball Ontario within the past 4 years (5 at the BDP, 2 MDP and 2 JDP).  We have 2 Coaches who have been invovled with, or are currently involved with Basketball Canada's - Centre for Performance Program.

We take pride in the careful selection of our coaches and the connection with Basketball Ontario PDP programs and Basketball Canada.  Our Technical Director is longtime Carleton University Coach Paul Armstrong, who ensures that we continue to get the best coaches in the region.

We don't have rogue teams popping up at OSS, rather a full line of products from 9 years old to 18 years old!  We take careful steps to develop our kids and not 'rush' them along when they're not ready.  We are fundamentally against forming 'All-Star' teams at any level and pilfering players away from other clubs.

Our goal is to be a complete club - with competitive teams at all age levels from atom- juvenile - both boys and girls.

We want to have a bustling house league program that is less of a time commitment with more emphasis on participation and fun - perhaps for the player that cannot afford the 2x/week practice and full game schedule (30-50 games), or the player that needs to work on certain aspects of their game to be able to compete at competitive levels.

Go Stars!
